North East Afghan Hound Rescue (NEAHR) is a group of dedicated volunteers who intervene on behalf of abandoned, abused, neglected or lost Afghan Hounds. We also help owners who can no longer keep their Afghans and need to place them. NEAHR receives its funding from individual donations, fund-raising events and donations from Afghan Hound Breed Clubs. Our goal is to match the dog with the right 'forever' home.
I just want to thank all of you for all of the good you do. “ Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” My late husband John and I had six Afghan Hounds since 1980, plus many other dogs, many rescues. We had three from Karen Wagner, all of whom were not showable for various small reasons. There was a show in CT where I found the dog of a lifetime. Karen had brought him all of the way from York, PA, to CT. She opened the crate, and there he was, black with a blue brindle on his face. You know how polite these dogs are. We walked him for an hour, but he wouldn’t go, not until he found a stream at Stew Leonard’s! We also went to one of your rescue shows. What wonderful, caring folks. ( We lived in PA.) it burns we up when idiots say they are dumb and the least affectionate breed! I am 78 now, and trying to get my house ready for viewing. It is so sad that I can no longer have an Afghan. I have 3 rescued cats, and have to get an apt. I wrote this just to tell some others who love them as I do. It is 50 years that I come home and there is no dog to greet me! Just want to thank you for loving them as we did. Regarding affection, please see Freddy the Afghan Hound from the UK on YouTube. Just want to say thank you. God bless. Brenda Shanley, Ave Maria, FL.
