The House Rabbit Network is an organization formed with two primary purposes: To rescue homeless rabbits and find them good indoor homes and also to educate the public about rabbits and their care. These activities may include: providing foster care for discarded domestic rabbits and arranging for adoption to permanent indoor homes; assisting humane societies and shelters with rabbits; providing spay/neuter surgery and veterinary care through arrangements with area practitioners; rehabilitating and socializing mistreated or neglected animals; permanently caring for animals who cannot be placed in adoptive homes due to serious health or behavioral problems; and educating the public on responsible pet ownership and humane practices.

Adoption process

1. Fill out an adoption application. Please allow 72 hours for someone to call you about the application. 2. We will call you and do a phone interview. This is nothing to be afraid of! Basically, we have a conversation where we discuss what it is like to share your home with a rabbit. We want to make sure you understand how to properly care for your bunny, and all aspects of the commitment that you will be making. Lets face it: If you adopt and then decide you made a mistake, it doesn’t do you, us or the rabbits any good. That is why we want to discuss all the pros & cons of living with a house rabbit first! 3. You will visit foster homes or shelter and meet bunnies. This will allow you to see different types of bunnies. Rabbits have a wide variety of looks and personalities. The foster home can also show you what it is like to have a rabbit in the home. 4. You choose who you want to adopt. Coordinate with the foster home or adoption counselor to be sure the rabbit is still available. 5. You get your home set up: Rabbit proof the bunny area, acquire the cage, litter box, water bottle, food, hay, etc. Please check out our Bringing Bunny Home article to use as a check list. 6. If you have a scheduled pick up, fill out the online adoption contract. The contract basically states that you will provide a good home for the rabbit. You won’t breed the bunny, you will take them to the vet for medical care, you will provide food, water and shelter. It also states that if for any reason you can no longer care for the rabbit, you will return him/her to us. 7. We spay and neuter our rabbits. We don’t have an adoption fee but we ask that you make a donation to offset the cost of the spay/neuter. We are asking for $100 for one bunny, $175 for a pair or $225 for a trio. This works out to be quite a savings, as most vets will charge significantly more. If you have been approved to adopt and coordinated pick up, you may make the adoption donation online. We also take cash or check. 8. You pick up the rabbit(s). 9. HRN volunteers will always be available to answer any questions you may have or to help with any problems. They may occasionally call to get updates on your new arrival.
