About

The Aurora Animal Shelter has been serving the citizens of Aurora since 1950s. The shelter was originally created to help control the rabies epidemic in Colorado by enforcing the state laws requiring pet owners to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies, a potentially fatal disease transmitted from animals to people. Since then we have grown to a full-service, open-admission animal shelter committed to protecting the animals of Aurora by providing shelter and care to any animal that comes to us. Our mission is to balance the needs of people and animals as we: Provide humane shelter, treatment and placement of animals; Enhance and preserve the human-animal bond through education, outreach, adoptions and cruelty prevention.

Adoption process

If you see a pet you would like to adopt, note the animal's ID# and location, and visit the Aurora Animal Shelter or Everyday Adoption Center immediately, or call 303.326.8280 for additional information. Regular Adoption Fees: Dogs - Under 6 months of age $175, 6 months to 6 years of age $150, 6 years and older (senior) $135, Cats - Under 6 months of age $145, 6 months to 6 years of age $125, 6 years and older (senior) $110, Small mammals, birds, ferrets and rabbits: $16. Adoption fees are non-refundable. A 50 percent discount on regular adoption fees is available to residents age 65 and older. All fees are subject to current promotions and discounts available.
