We are a foster based dog rescue out of Golden, Colorado. Whether you're looking to adopt or volunteer, we are excited to work with you! Our mission is to save dogs from high kill, over populated shelters and place them in loving, committed homes. Sunshine Canyon Dog Rescue is a foster based rescue located in Colorado. We work with amazing volunteers all over the United States. It is because of them that we are able to provide these deserving dogs with a second chance at life. We strive to understand exactly what will make our dogs thrive and match them the guardian who can provide that. Because we take commitment very seriously we require a mandatory one week foster period. We adopted this idea from Farfel's Rescue because its a great one. It is truly the best way to make sure you are committed and open to growing with your new companion.
My husband and I applied to adopt a puppy in need through this organization. The website is professional and gave us the impression that these guys really know what they are doing. We liked the foster based approach and found two pups we were really interested in. We took thoughtful care and time to fill out the extensive 8-page application which covered everything from toileting, crating, our behavior training philosophy, vet info, emergency contacts and what kind of food we would buy. They are a small operation so tell you on the application it would take at least 3 days to hear anything back and up to three weeks to get approved to adopt. After submitting our application we waited and heard nothing after a week and a half so my husband reached out to follow up. No response. He followed up again after 3 weeks had passed and politely asked for a yes or no so we could just move on. There is no phone number to call so we can only rely on emails. We still have heard nothing after 5 weeks so we assume that means we are not suitable. We've checked the website and it shows our favorite pup still needs adoption but when we go on their Facebook page it says all of the pups in his litter, including him have been adopted. There is a clear disconnect in their many different websites. We understand that they probably get many applications to review but we just find the lack of contact troubling and inconsiderate. We took the time to go through all the steps and still didn't even get a "sorry we don't see this as a good fit at this time." We are a great couple who wants to take in an animal in need so we are confused as to why this organization wouldn't at least consider us or let us know what we can improve upon to fulfill their standard of acceptable "pet guardians." I would not waste your time with these people. Go to a shelter and find a pup that really needs a forever home that you won't have to prove you are good enough for. Just our experience...
