The Rescue Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to building trusting relationships with people and their pets, while at the same time improving the lives of animals in Kansas City’s under-served communities. We provide basic survival items such as food, water, flea/tick prevention and dog houses for needy animals. We offer low cost veterinary resources and emphasize the need to spay and neuter. In addition, we provide community education/awareness to the public on responsible pet ownership and empower people to make a difference.
The Rescue Project wants to ensure our animals get placed with the right family. It is very important that we take the time and consideration necessary to ensure this happens. The first step is to apply for the animal that interest you. We do go in the order we receive the applications. There are a few important items to note when applying. If the vet and landlord (if applicable) are not filled out properly we will not be able to process your application. We will be calling your vet so if your vet needs you to release the pet’s information to us please make sure you have this done prior to applying. This will help speed up the process of the applications. We ask that you also ensure you know the rules of having pets if you are in a landlord situation so there are no surprises when we call them. If there are no other applicants ahead of yours then our adoption coordinators will connect you via email with the foster parent for the animal you applied for. From there a meet and greet will be scheduled for you to meet the animal. If the meet and greet is successful the next step will be for the foster parent or another volunteer to conduct a home check. This is to ensure the pet is going to a safe environment. If the animal is vetted and ready to go and the home visit goes well for both parties then the finalization of the adoption can occur.
