St. Francis Animal Rescue of Venice (SFAR Venice) is a 501(c)3 established in 1994. We are a limited admission, free roaming, no-kill cat rescue. We support 100+ cats and kittens onsite and 75 in short- and long-term foster care, with 30-40 cats available for adoption at any given time. The shelter is funded by donations and legacy giving, and we rely on our thrift store to supplement our monthly expenses. We have a small team of employees to manage, medicate and clean our rescue. Our dedicated volunteer team of approximately 50 individuals do whatever is necessary to keep our shelter and thrift store operational. Cats in our care receive medical treatment from Petworks Cat Clinic and Arc Animal Hospital. Foster families care for kittens until they are ready for adoption and others help to socialize cats who otherwise would be considered unadoptable. SFAR Venice focuses on rescuing and caring for those who would not be adoptable and would likely be euthanized. We assist our community with education on cat behavior to keep cats in their homes. We provide referrals to free or low cost spay and neuter clinics in the area. We support trapping for TNR programs. We provide donated food for feral colonies and furnish food to families and food banks so pets can remain in their homes. SFAR Venice has adopted over 1,000 cats in the last five years and helped thousands of other cats through owner education and by providing food in our community.
