Humane Indiana’s four entities are driven by our mission to lead the community in the humane treatment of all animals. Our Animal Shelter strives to find homes for homeless cats and dogs of all ages. In addition, our shelter team works with families who need to surrender their pets, or need help finding resources to keep their pets because we believe in the preservation of families. Through our care, we ensure that shelter pets receive proper nourishment, exercise, and enrichment activities during their time with us. However, our goals and impact reach far beyond our shelter doors. Abandoned and homeless litters of puppies and kittens and their moms are cared for through the help of our generous foster families, and in times of need we offer crisis fostering to pet owners. We are grateful for our local animal agencies and rescues and for the opportunity to combine our efforts to help provide spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping for adopted pets. Our shelter also works with the public and local government agencies to help control community and feral cat populations with spay/neuter and vaccination services.
We encourage you to first browse our list of adoptables to get an idea of animals you might want to meet before coming to the shelter to get the most out of their viewing time. Our adoptables are updated daily. For everyone’s safety, the kennel areas are open for viewing in designated time slots to allow for disinfection between adopters and to ensure there is not an excess amount of people in the same viewing areas at once. The designated time slots for browsing the kennel areas are: Sundays and Mondays: 11 am, noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm; Tuesday through Saturday: 11 am, noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm. Appointments to book a designated time slot are strongly encouraged so entrance to the kennel can be guaranteed. To pre-schedule a viewing time, call the shelter at 219-922-3811. Walk-ins are welcome only if the designated time slot is not already taken. Only members from the same household may visit together. All visitors MUST wear a mask before entering the shelter. This is a requirement to enter our facility. We ask you use hand sanitizer before entering the shelter.
