The Alaska Humane Society was founded in 1979, and established its first shelter in 1988. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates a no-kill shelter and sanctuary for "orphan" cats. We accept cats on the basis of need, not adoptability.

Adoption process

Most of our cats are available for adoption. The adoption fee for all cats and kittens is $130. We accept Visa and MasterCard. Our adoption agreement prohibits declawing an adopted cat, and stipulates that the cat will be returned to us if the adoption does not work out, or if the adopter is no longer able to keep the cat or give it necessary healthcare. For the first 30 days, cats who do not work out in their new homes may be returned for a refund or exchanged for another, more suitable, cat.
