About

The Rescued Rescuers, Inc. is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization located in the Panhandle of Florida that exists for the sole purpose of rescuing unwanted dachshunds and other small breeds in need. Since 2011, our mission has been to serve the Panhandle area of Florida by rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing unwanted dogs. The focus of our efforts is to assist dogs in need and restoring health by providing any vetting these dogs may require, including having them spayed and neutered; to rehabilitate those unwanted dogs that need confidence building and training; and to acquire quality permanent, loving homes for the placement of these unwanted dogs. Our efforts are primarily focused on the care and needs of these dogs, but we also work to educate the public on the importance of adopting rescue dogs as opposed to purchasing dogs. Through education, training, and our work to assist owners within the community with behavioral and health issues, we hope to prevent dogs from becoming “unwanted”. The Rescued Rescuers, Inc. exists “by the dogs, for the dogs”, which not only saves countless dogs in need along the Emerald Coast, but educates and inspires our community to become the rescuers of tomorrow.

Adoption process

1. Fall in Love! - You are encouraged to visit us at adoption events and contact specific foster homes via the email found on the dog’s profile for more information on any of our dogs. 2. Submit an Adoption Application - Once you have found the dog you are interested in, submit an adoption application on our website. Please be thorough and make sure it is completely filled out. 3. Application Processing - Your application will be processed by one of our volunteers. It will be scanned for completeness and veterinary and landlord checks will be performed if needed. If your application is approved, it will be forwarded to the dog’s foster home for their review. 4. Foster Review - The foster home will review all applications for their foster dog to determine applicants that may be a good fit. The foster home will select the home(s) he/she feels may be the most ideal home for the dog and set up a home visit. 5. Home Visit - The purpose of the home visit is to ensure a safe environment for a dog and see how the dog you are interested in interacts and fits in. All members of the household (human and pet) are required to be in attendance and it should take approximately 30 mins. Please note, several home visits may be performed for the same dog and selection for a home visit does not guarantee you as the best choice for the dog. 6. Adoption - Congrats, your home has been chosen as the best fit for the dog! Once you pay the adoption fee and sign the adoption contract, your new family member is all yours. A copy of the contract as well as vet paperwork will be provided to you.
