Star - St. Louis Avian Rescue

When people think of animal rescue, they usually think in terms of dogs and cats, but did you know that birds are some of the most re-homed pets? St. Louis Avian Rescue (STAR) helps find new homes for these companion birds who often outlive their owners. We are an all-volunteer rescue and adoption group formed in 2002, to help homeless birds in the St. Louis metropolitan area. We are a 501(c)(3) charity, so all donations to our organization are tax deductible. Our volunteers foster a variety of bird species, with the eventual goal of placement in forever homes. We care deeply for our avian friends, so our adoption process ensures both bird and new owner are compatible. While in foster home care, the birds are handled, tamed, fed and cared for with the intention of preparing them for their new forever home. Since our rescue does not have a brick and mortar location, our foster families are a crucial part of our organization. We strive to educate and instruct the public in not only the care of companion birds, but in the appreciation of wild birds as well. We regularly hold “Meet the Birds” events, where the public can learn more about us, our birds, and our mission. See our Events page our upcoming events.

Adoption process

Please be sure to complete the form in its entirety so that we can process it in a timely fashion! Someone will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss the next steps! We do check ALL veterinary references, and we ask that you notify your clinic so they can release information to our organization. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant. Approved applicants will be placed on our mailing list for updates and special events (program use only).
