About

Founded in 2007, Project MEOW is an all-volunteer, non-profit* animal welfare group that provides services to help people care for stray and feral cats in West Philadelphia. Our mission is to humanely reduce the future population of cats living on the streets, while supporting the need now for cats to live safely indoors and outdoors in our neighborhoods. We believe we are most effective doing this as a community-based organization, so we focus our work in zip codes 19104, 19139, and 19143. Most of our members live or work in West Philly, although we do have foster homes and administrative volunteers outside of these zips. We focus on Trap-Neuter-Return Manage (TNRM) and fostering/adopting cats that clearly are not suited for the outdoors - kittens, abandoned pets, older animals. Our partnership with PAWS, Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society allows for many vulnerable animals to enter PAWS adoption centers after they are sterilized and vaccinated. We also adopt directly from foster homes. TNRM is a humane and non-lethal approach to community cat population control –a comprehensive management plan where healthy free-roaming cats unsuited to the indoors are sterilized and vaccinated, then returned to their habitat and provided with long-term care by at least one community member. We help an average of 1100 cats per year with volunteer labor and we are completely funded by donations. We have no staff or physical building. Since many of the cats found in the neighborhoods we assist are friendly and could be adopted, we also partner with rescue organizations to help find adoptable cats good homes. Project MEOW adheres to all animal laws and city ordinances regarding feral and domestic cats. PROJECT MEOW DOES NOT “TRAP AND KILL.” Project MEOW is recognized by the United States IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. Donations to Project MEOW are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Please complete the adoption application. Upon approval, we will put you in touch with the foster home of the cat or kitten of your interest. Adoptions are finalized with the signing of an adoption contract, payment of an adoption fee, and best of all, bringing kitty home! For cats older than six months, the adoption fee is $75. For kittens younger than six months, the adoption fee is $125 for one, or $200 for two.
