The program was established due to a strong need to help abandoned, pregnant, sick and unwanted animals through temporary housing, supportive care and a spay and neuter program for population control in and around Central Illinois. Judy Warmbier, a humane activist, and Nicole Duffee, D.V.M., Ph.D., a veterinarian started the Prairieland Anti-Cruelty Program in 1993. Judy who has taken over the prgram has a long list of expertise. She has worked for the Champaign County Humane Society many years serving on their board. She was one of the first four people in the State of Illinois to be an approved humane investigator. She has taken several educational courses on animal care and welfare, including Humane Society of United States, American Humane, Dept. of Agriculture Bureau of Animal Welfare, University of Tuscaloosa in Alabama and National Horse Abuse Conference in Durango, Colorado. She has spayed, neutered and placed over 400 animals a year. The shelter is located between Champaign and Mahomet Illinois. It is a modest facility. The Prairieland Anti Cruelty Program is a nonprofit organization 501(c) (3). They are not supported by any agency or tax dollars, but solely from individual donors.

Have a 5 yr old rescue, would like another dog for her to play with. Star is house trained and obeys well. Another would have a loving home, I have a big back and and Star shares my bed but has a few of her own..
