About

PAWS rescues and re-homes approximately 200 dogs and 500 cats annually. Many of the dogs are strays from local animal control facilities and most of the cats that we help are strays and abandoned cats that roam our streets. A portion of the pets that come to PAWS have been relinquished by their owners who are no longer able to care for them. PAWS has a handful of paid staff and a team of dedicated volunteers who help with everything from fundraising, kennel work, walking dogs, socializing cats, and much, much more. Every person at PAWS is a valued member of our team . Without them we could not accomplish the miracles that happen every day! We constantly seek to increase the number of lives we can save by finding adoptive homes for the animals in our care, working closely with other animal groups, and raising funds to secure the supplies and facilities necessary for our operation. PAWS also seeks to decrease the number of unwanted pets by informing and educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering. PAWS does not provide low cost spay/neuter programs for owned pets.

Adoption process

1. First, fill out an Adoption Application for your desired pet. Please give us 24-48 hours to process the application. We will contact you within a couple days with any questions. You may visit us to fill out the application in person, but it is recommend to do it at home since it may take a while. 2. You can walk in any afternoon. Weekdays are best, but we will accommodate your scheduling needs. The interview process and meeting potential pets is also time-consuming; please be prepared to spend about an hour at the shelter. 3. If you have other pets, please bring a copy of your Vet records so that we may verify that they are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. This is necessary prior to adopting a pet from PAWS, and there can be delays if records aren't available and we need to try to contact your Vet. Most Vets are not available on weekends which slows down the approval process. 4. Be prepared to take your new friend home. This includes food, bedding, toys, a leash, a litterbox, cat carrier, or anything necessary for the best care of the animal. Also, begin to make decisions on choosing a vet in your area who has knowledge of your animal type or breed. 5. Meet the pets! This may take some time, so be sure to allow yourself enough time to get to know all of the animals and finish the adoption process. There is a furry friend out that for everyone, sometimes you have to meet more than one to find the perfect fit for your family. 6. Bring home your new family member! Thank you for adopting a shelter animal and giving them the warm, loving family they've always wanted.
