OUR VISION: All companion animals will be loved and cared for their entire lives. OUR MISSION: To improve the lives of companion animals through adoption, spay/neuter, humane education and advocacy programs.
You must be 18 years old to adopt a pet. You may want to look at our website before coming to the Adoption Center to see what dogs and cats we have available for adoption, www.oconeehumane.org. After seeing some pets that are of interest and reading our descriptions of their personalities and behavior, we recommend that you come to the adoption center to meet with an adoption counselor. At the Adoption Center we have areas for you to get to know the animals: Our cats are located off the lobby cat room with a "catio" available when weather permits and an indoor play area where you can interact with the kitties. The dogs can play with you in one of several exercise runs so you can get to see if they are a match for your home and family. We also have an indoor "get acquainted" room for quiet interactions. If you rent your residence, you will be asked to provide your landlord's name and phone number so we can verify that you are allowed to have a pet. You will be asked to provide the name and phone number of your preferred veterinary practice. This would be where your current animals receive care or, if you have no current pets, where you intend to seek services. Once your adoption application is approved, you will need to sign a contract confirming the truth of the information you've provided and your promise to care well for your pet. This contract is between you and Oconee County Animal Control. OHS acts as their liaison for adoptions. If, for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we ask that you return the pet to Oconee County Animal Control - the intake door at the Oconee Animal Shelter. There are no refunds for returned adoptions. Adoption fees are payable to Oconee Humane Society. OHS accepts Cash, Check, Credit / Debit cards. Adoption fees payable to Oconee Humane Society.
