About

Metairie Humane was founded by a group of concerned long-term Metairie residents who wanted to do something to improve the lives of all dogs. Metairie Humane uses all donations and funds raised at events to fund veterinary care, upkeep of pets awaiting adoption, long term care of unadopted pets and other related expenses. Metairie Humane does NOT have ANY paid staff members. We strive to improve the adoption prospects and the quality of life for homeless pets in the Metairie/Greater New Orleans area. Spurred to action by the frequent headlines of the continual failure of the local shelters to provide adoptable pets a chance at finding a new forever family, Metairie Humane was born. Today, Metairie Humane tries to provide as many homeless pets as possible with a safe and loving environment as they await a forever family. They provide educational services encouraging responsible pet ownership and making known the many benefits of spaying or neutering your pets. Metairie Humane's "The Petique" goes to local pet events and fundraisers. Selling such items as custom ID Tags, t-shirts, clothing, costumes and sports jerseys.

Adoption process

1) Call Jami at 504-458-0531 to make an appointment for a Meet & Greet with the dog(s) you are interested in adopting. NO TEXT OR EMAILS, please. 2) Have the Meet & Greet. 3) Complete the Questionnaire & Adoption Application. 4) Metairie Humane vets potential Adoptee. 5) Adoption Committee meets once a week to review vetted Adoption Applications 6) Metairie Humane will notify the party if their Adoption Application has been approved. 7) An appointment will be set up to: Complete the Adoption Agreement, Pay the adoption fee, Review your new pet's medical information, Answer questions you may have, Take your new pet companion home
