Furry Friends seeks to assist all area animals in need through a variety of programs including adoptions, spay and neuter, community outreach, and humane education. Additionally, the organization has partnered with WestPet Animal Control to provide housing, reunification, and adoption programs for stray animals in West Des Moines, Clive, and Urbandale. Furry Friends relies heavily on volunteers, and all donations go directly to the programs that serve the animals. We are compassionate people who care about animals and promote animal welfare through education and celebration of the human/animal bond. We work to combat animal mistreatment and insist on humane treatment for all animals.
Furry Friends Refuge requires that you meet with any animal you are interested in adopting prior to putting in an application. Potential adopters are welcome to visit our animals during our adoption hours or by prearranged appointment. All adopters must be at least 18 years of age and must complete an application. All animals adopted from Furry Friends Refuge must be adopted as companion animals. Furry Friends may request a home visit, landlord approval, references, or other information pertinent to the suitability of the potential adoptive home. Furry Friends Refuge reserves the right to refuse any adoption.
My name is Louis Winthrop III, my paw-cousins Marla & Ossie call me Louie. While I was trying to sneak over to their house to hangout I was nabbed and these great folks asked me to spend the night. Once my Mommy and Auntie located me at FurryFriends “No-Kill Shelter, they arranged to get me out plus make an appointment to the Doc. At 14 years old and blind, I don’t get to many wild nights out, these guys put the jive right back into my step. Thank you.
