Animal Lifeline of Iowa (ALI) is Central Iowa’s only special needs, no-kill animal shelter, celebrating nearly 35 years of serving the Des Moines area and all of Iowa. We rescue cats and dogs that are injured, handicapped, have a serious medical condition, abused, pregnant and nursing moms, or orphans that require bottle feeding. We rehabilitate the animals, who run a higher risk of euthanasia in a traditional shelter setting, and then adopt them into loving forever homes. Animals are not euthanized because they have been at the shelter for a certain length of time.
1. Adoption Applicants must be adults of legal age and present photo identification at the time of adoption. 2. All animals will be placed as inside pets only and become a part of your family. 3. Applicants wishing to adopt cats/kittens must be willing to consider alternatives to declawing. 4. No animal will be released for adoption as a gift to another person. The recipient may not want an animal, the animal may not be suitable for the recipient’s life style or the recipient may not meet the criteria for a responsible pet owner. Animal Lifeline will issue “Gift Certificates” that may be redeemed by the recipient, but Animal Lifeline reserves the right to refuse adoption to any person that fails to meet the criteria for a responsible pet owner. 5. Adopters must be prepared to give lifelong care to the animal they adopt. 6. If the applicant rents, approval from the landlord is required before the adoption application is approved. This is for the protection of the animal and the adopter. 7. No animal adopted from Animal Lifeline of Iowa may be sold or given away to another person. If the adopter can no longer keep the animal, for whatever reason, the adopter or family should contact Animal Lifeline of Iowa to arrange for the pets return. 8. All adopters agree to fit their new dog with properly fitting collars bearing a permanent tag with the owner’s name, address and phone. All dogs are adopted from the shelter with a temporary tag bearing Animal Lifeline’s name and phone. 9. All animals are micro-chipped and the microchip will be registered to the adopter. 10. Serious consideration is given to the adopter’s ability to provide adequate exercise for a dog. Fenced yards are preferred. 11. Animal Lifeline may conduct a Pre and/or Post-Adoption home visit.
