About

Central Texas Dachshund Rescue was started in September of 2000. Our membership has grown yearly, providing more foster families and volunteers to help find loving, forever homes for our dachshunds. We were incorporated in September of 2001 and we received 501(c)3 status in February 2003. And, despite our name, we are no longer only in Central Texas, but have members and volunteers throughout the state.

Adoption process

1.) View our list of CTDR DOGS. 2.) Complete an ADOPTION APPLICATIONand list the names of all the dogs you're interested in. If you don't currently see a dog that matches your family, please tell us more about what you're looking for. We have new dogs weekly and will contact you if a dog comes in that meets your requirements. Don't forget to list the name and number of your current veterinarian and landlord, if applicable! We will contact your current vet, landlord and personal references, if needed. 3.) After we receive your application, we'll contact you to discuss the specifics of what you're looking for. We will try to contact you within 3-7 days, but we are all volunteers and have full time jobs, so be patient with us! 4.) Once we have completed all vet and reference checks, we will schedule a home visit where someone from our organization will come to your home and meet you and your family and any pets you currently have. The entire process can take up to 30 days to complete. 5.) Finally, we will schedule a time when your family and pet(s) can meet your desired rescue dachshund. As all our dachshunds are in foster homes and not in one central location, we will need to coordinate schedules to arrange this last meeting. If a long transport is involved, we ask the potential adopter to arrange the transportation of the dog. Please see our GUIDELINES section for further information about transports. 6.) Once you have selected a dog to meet, the foster will be contacted. At that time, the foster will be given 48 hours in which to decide whether or not they want to adopt their foster. Once the 48 hour time is up and if the foster declines adoption, the approved adopter will then get the opportunity to adopt the dog. At the time of the meet and greet, the foster will have an Adoption Contract for you to sign and at that time, the appropriate adoption fee will need to be paid. All checks are to be made out to CTDR or you can pre-pay the Adoption fee through the CTDR Pay Pal. Once you have adopted your CTDR dog, all vet records will be released once the 14 day trial period is over.
