Shadow Cats TNR (SCTNR), formerly known as Best Friends in Harford County, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to assisting animals in need in Harford County, MD. Our mission is to establish and manage programs for the welfare of community cats, companion animals, and pet owners needing assistance, in collaboration with other community partners, rescue groups and shelters. We specialize in controlling the community cat population through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). As a result of the TNR process, we often acquire, along with feral cats, friendly and semi-friendly cats and kittens. We work to place these cats into appropriate homes through our adoption and barn cat programs. SCTNR seeks to educate the public on the importance of spaying/neutering all pets as well as controlling the cat populations in our county.

Adoption process

Complete an Adoption Application here. Once your application is approved, we will contact you to schedule a meet and greet to make sure you and the cat you are interested in adopting are a purrfect match. Once the right match has been found, you will meet with an Adoption Counselor, complete an adoption contract and then bring your new pet home. Please note, all applications are reviewed and processed on a first to apply, first reviewed basis. Once we receive your application, a volunteer will process it by holding a personal interview with you, asking any questions about your interest in adopting or your application, and a background and vet reference check will be completed. Please allow at least 72 hours to process your application and please send SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY. This is a time intensive process and we have lots of cats to find homes for!
