Barkie's Legacy is a foster-based non-profit 501(c)(3) rescue dedicated to saving dogs from being euthanized in shelters and those found as a stray through fostering and adoption. Mission: To save as many dogs as possible from the fate of euthanasia at shelters throughout the state of Florida and the South. To educate the public of the benefits of spaying/neutering your pet and monthly heartworm preventatives as well as the dangers of stereotyping breeds and breed-specific legislation.
All prospective adopters need to fill out and submit an Adoption Application. We believe our dogs and puppies deserve the best of homes, so you must have great references and agree to a home visit. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on shots prior to being adopted (unless they are too young, then an agreement is made). Every dog is heartworm tested and treated along with given the proper flea/tick medication. An adoption fee is charged to help defray veterinarian and other required expenses. We made a promise to our babies that they will never have to worry again, so adopters will have to sign a contract agreeing to take great care of that animal. If an adoption does not work out for any reason, the animal must be returned to Barkie's Legacy.
