Westie Rescue Of Ca And Seven Western States

El Cajon, CA 92021

About

Westie Rescue of California and seven Western states, is a charitable and educational private independent not-for-profit organization. As our Mission Statement indicates, we are active in providing public breed education, rescue services, foster rehabilitation, animal training, terrier knowledgeable, and often times, life-saving medical care, and placement in approved forever homes. Our rescues come from every walk of life; owner surrendered, shelter found, abused, abandoned, neglected, puppy mill raids, professional referrals or otherwise - any Westie-in-Need. Our Founding Directors have more than 75+ years dedication to the breed they love. We are the oldest and largest independent Westie Rescue within the state and possibly the West Coast, garnering a stellar reputation along the way as relentless caretakers of the breed. We applaud our hundreds of dedicated volunteers, adopters and loving Westie owners who give back to the breed. Our breed gives such joy, laughter and often tears along the paw-path of life. Our organization has a long association with the WHWT Club of California and WHWT Club of America. BRAVO and KUDOS to those who make a difference in the life of a rescued Westie.

Adoption process

1. After receiving your application, an application acknowledgment letter will be mailed to you. After review, an acceptance or denial acknowledgment letter will be sent. The turn-around time is usually about 2-3 weeks. The length of time can vary depending upon how many rescues we currently have in the program. 2. A tentatively approved application will be kept on file until a Westie becomes available for adoption which will match your 'family profile'. All approved applications are kept on file until a Westie is placed with an applicant. We do ask any applicant who subsequently acquired another dog to notify us in writing so that we may remove that application from our tentatively pending file. 3. Once a rescued Westie is ready for adoption (medical care, rehabilitation and/or retraining completed), each approved application is then checked to see which family(s) most closely matches the needs of that particular dog. 4. Westie Rescue of CA & 7 Western States Review Board volunteer calls the applicant(s), relays as much background information as possible, and arranges an appointment to a 'Meet and Greet' and observes the interaction of the family and the Westie. It is strongly suggested that all family members attend this 'initial interaction' meeting, along with current family pets, when feasible. 5. After an initial positive interaction meeting, the applicants would be able to adopt that available Westie. Our adoptions are never determined by 'the next' available application name(s) on the list. Each Westie is carefully placed with the the best suited adoptive family and visa versa. 6. The adoption family signs our 'Adoption Contract' and provides a donation which helps cover expenses, and a transfer of ownership check payable to the microchip registration company. Our adoption donations help to cover costly Veterinarian services, included surgery, vaccinations, professional services to help in their recovery and wellness, foster care supplies, food, prescription medicines, and other program costs (i.e.: transportation, phone bills, office supplies, etc.). To be universally fair to all program Westies In Need, our adoption donation is based upon a sliding scale, which depends upon the age of the rescue. Puppies are placed for $650.00 and the costs go down from there based upon the age of the rescue. Westies 9+ years old are placed at a lower donation amount. We also have a Seniors for Seniors program. We place these mature Westies in loving homes, after verifying that income levels are adequate to take care of a Westie. These program dogs are placed with a nominal adoption donation. It is always about the best loving home for our Westies. We feel this is a very reasonable donation request since an AKC Westie puppy, purchased from a quality, respected and knowledgeable breeder is $2,200 - $2,800. Puppies have been this price range for well over 5 years now. 7. The Westie and its new family go home with a copy of the Adoption Contract, Westie themed new leash and collar with a temporary Westie Rescue ID tag, The Westie Diet instructions, toys, medicine/medicated shampoo (if applicable), foster volunteer 'case workers' telephone number(s), program directors telephone number(s), training tips and other necessary items. 8. Westie Rescue of CA & 7 Western States, usually the foster 'case worker', makes routine follow-up calls to assure the rehoming of the Westie is successful. These calls help to resolve any questions or concerns before they become problems. We want the time, energy and love we put into these placements to always have the best outcome for both our Westies and the adoptive family. 9. The Westie and adoption family are encouraged to participate in the great fun activities throughout the year sponsored by Westie Rescue of California and 7 Western States. Either A. Download and print out application. Then complete the form, prepare a personal cover letter* and mail with a $10.00 donation check to offset our processing costs, payable to: Westie Rescue of CA, ANFPO, to the PO Box address on the application. Complete all the information requested on the form. Failing to do so will only delay your application Or B. If you don't have a printer or Internet access, simply write to our PO Box requesting a Westie Rescue of California 'Adoption Application Package'. Include a $10.00 donation check, which helps defray our processing costs (i.e. postage, envelopes, copies, paper, telephone, etc.).
