The Warren Billhartz Collinsville Animal Shelter is the animal control and adoption shelter for the City of Collinsville. We are staffed by two full time animal control officers and many volunteers.
We feel it is important to meet your new forever friend before deciding that he or she is the right one for you. Because of this, we require that all adoption applications be done in person. We don't have online, email, or phone applications. All pets will be spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped as part of the adoption.
This is not a review; I have an important question and I cannot call. In June, 2020 my roommate adopted a German Shepherd mix from your shelter. She died one month later and my husband and I took the dog. Since then I have been it’s primary caregiver. In September I received two fairly severe dog bites during an argument with my husband. Last Sunday, he split my lip and the dog attacked me. I was severely bitten numerous times all over my left leg and abdomen. I had stumbled when I was struck and a friend pointed out that if I had fallen it would have ripped my throat out. What is normally done in such a case?
