Voice For Horses Rescue Network (VFHRN) is an Ohio 501 (c) 3 Non-profit Humane Corporation organized in November of 1999 for the purpose of providing food, water, shelter and veterinary care to horses that are: sick, injured, abandoned, abused, neglected, slaughter bound or when an owner can no longer care or keep them. We also network with other equine rescues across the 50 states, local humane societies, law enforcement, therapeutic riding centers and horse clubs with the placement of horses. We receive no government, city or united way money. We are an all volunteer organization that is funded solely by the caring and generous public. VFHRN assists with cruelty investigations in cooperation with local humane societies and law enforcement officials. Our goal is to help as many equine as possible, by alleviating equine abuse and neglect through awareness. VFHRN is a small rescue, located in Toledo, Ohio, and is made up of a group of wonderful volunteers who are dedicated to giving the best possible care to our rescue horses. These volunteers are one of our most valuable assets. However, without funds we would not be able to help these majestic animals. We fund the rescue with the help of private donations, sponsorship, adoption fees, and yearly fundraisers. VFHRN understands the need to avoid becoming overextended as well as the need to be able to properly maintain and care for all equine already in our care. We will help any horse in need if our funding and barn space will allow. Adopted equine who need to be returned due to circumstances with the family will ALWAYS take precedence over others due to our mandatory return policy.

Adoption process

To adopt a horse, the first step is to apply is by filling out an adoption application. A $10, non-refundable application fee is required upon submission of application, and can be paid by paypal to voiceforhorses@att.net or by credit card, check (made payable to Voice For Horses Rescue ) or cash. It typically takes two to three days to complete the adoption process as long as your references send our requested correspondence back via email.. A barn visit may is also required before any horse is placed in an adoptive home if local, if out of state then we require you to send photos of where the horse will be kept (barn, stall, pasture, paddock, run-in shed and any current photos of your current horses. Once we have reviewed your application, we will schedule an appointment for you to meet with one of our staff. At this meeting, we will learn more about your horsemanship plans and dreams and experience, and assess your comfort level with horses. Based upon this, we will introduce you to an equine who we feel may be appropriate for you. If you are interested in adopting a horse for riding, you will be permitted to ride the horse as long as we have ridden it first. If you are successfully matched with a horse, we will prepare an adoption contract for your signature. Registration papers DO NOT come with any horse unless approved by the board. You may have your veterinarian do a pre purchase exam at the adopters cost. Pay an adoption fee (fees vary according to the horse’s experience and level of training); and arrange transportation to take your new equine home. Once you have taken your adopted horse home, we encourage you to call us with any questions you may have, and participate in clinics, play days and any other educational and wellness courses in your community. In addition, our staff will follow up via phone and through site visits if local to ensure that adopted horses are well cared for and to support you in your journey with your new equine.
