About

Tulare County Animal Services Division strives to improve the safety and quality of life for the animals and residents in the unincorporated areas of Tulare County by focusing on: Ensuring public safety; Responsible pet ownership and reducing the dangers and nuisances caused by irresponsible pet owners; Protecting pets from abuse, neglect, and homelessness through education and enforcement of laws, codes, and regulations related to animals; The humane care and treatment of animals; Care, sheltering, and adoption services for stray, sick, or injured, abandoned, and surrendered animals; Responding to emergencies and investigating reports of dog bites, vicious animals, animal abuse and neglect, public complaints, and more; Reducing animal overpopulation by promoting and providing spay/neutering services; Dog and kennel licensing services; Microchipping services. Animals under the care and custody of the Tulare County Animal Services Division are sheltered at the County’s Animal Care and Adoptions facility. The facility has indoor/outdoor kennel runs for dogs, a combined cat room and outdoor cattery, and spaces for non-domestic animals and livestock.

Adoption process

Step 1: Visit the “Available Pets” section. Step 2: Walk Through the Animal Areas. Walk through our animal areas and look at the available animals. You may read the information for each animal, which includes the animal's age and breed. Please keep your children with you at all times and remind them not to put their fingers into an animal’s cage. Not only is it dangerous for you, it can also spread diseases similar to common colds among the animals. Step 3: Complete the Adoption Application. Step 4: Meeting and Adopting Animals. Our Animal Services staff can help you meet pets that match your interests and lifestyle. You can take animals to the dog park area and get to know them a little better. All of our animals must be spayed or neutered before they are adopted. If they are not already altered, we will schedule a day for the surgery to be completed. We do not recommend that you leave your dog in your car while you look at other dogs; the interior car temperature even in the spring or fall can reach lethally hot levels in minutes. Step 5: Paperwork and Fees. When you have selected your new pet, there will be some paperwork to fill out and payment of adoption fees at the front desk. On weekends especially, there can be many adoptions going on, so we ask for your patience if you have to wait during this step. All adoptions include lots of extras!
