The Greater Derry Humane Society has no paid staff, and is run solely by volunteers. Our main budget item is our Veterinary Fund that is constantly being depleted to cover medical costs for the animals in our care. We do not receive any town, city or government funds. Therefore, we depend on fundraising and on the generous donations from people like you.

Adoption process

1. The first step in adopting a pet from the Greater Derry Humane Society is to fill out an Adoption Application. All potential adopters must be approved in advance. 2. We recommend that you fill out an application prior to looking for a pet so we have it on file and you are pre-approved to adopt. Our animals go quickly on a first-come basis, so having an application already approved and on file is a big plus! 3. We will notify you that we received your application and are processing it. 4. We will let you know the minute you are approved.
