Sarge’s original mission is to save animals from euthanasia in the Haywood County Animal Shelter, because when we started, more than 50 animals per week were being put down because of lack of space. Now that the Haywood County Animal Shelter has achieved no-kill status, it is our goal to make sure they are able to maintain that record. We now have more hard-to-place and longer term animals in our care, and we provide assistance to the shelter with on-site adoptions.
In order to receive consideration to meet and/or adopt one of our animals, you must first complete a full adoption application at Sarges.org or at our office at 256B Industrial Park Drive in Waynesville. After your application is submitted, you should receive confirmation via email that it has been received. Please note that it could take a few days to a week to hear from us regarding a decision concerning your application. Responses will be sent to the email indicated on your application. Please be sure to check that email account to stay updated on the process. If your application was approved but was not chosen for the pet you selected, we will make every effort to introduce you to other pets. We will keep your application on file for 60 days. Approved applications will maintain “approved” status for that length and can be applied to appropriate matches in that timeframe. (Subject to the discretion of adoption manager). We do require you to meet the animal you applied for prior to final approval. Please also be prepared to bring your current dog to meet our dog. If you rent your home, we will contact your landlord to confirm pet policy and acceptability (i.e. breed, size, etc.). All members of any household must be in agreement with the potential adoption. Applications that are not fully completed will not be considered. All adopters must be 18 years of age or older to be considered. Falsifying or misrepresenting any details on the application will result in immediate adoption disqualification and could lead to a permanent ban from adopting Sarge animals.
