SAFE HAVEN HUMANE SOCIETY is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group in Michigan that rescues dogs and cats from a variety of abandonment situations. Funding for our rescue work comes entirely from donations by fellow animal lovers and fundraising events. No funding is received from any national, state or local organization, and there is no paid staff. All rescue work and re-homing of these abandoned pets is done by volunteers. We work very closely with local animal shelters, many rural, in Michigan to pull pets in jeopardy of euthanasia due to lack of homes. Some of the pets coming into our program have serious medical needs that were not addressed by their previous owners. We try very hard to help these animals as funds allow and then place them in new permanent homes. Safe Haven Humane Society has no central facility and all of our rescued animals are in foster homes so we are limited only by the number of foster homes we have available.

Adoption process

1. Please view all available Safe Haven pets here (or if you prefer, you can view just dogs or just cats). If you find an animal you are interested in and want to consider adoption, please complete an online adoption application, and submit for our review. Once the review is completed, we will contact you to arrange for meeting the pet and finalizing the adoption. 2. Each spring we join many other shelters and rescues at the Pet Expo in Grand Rapids. Check our Calendar of Events for the date. You can also check out our Facebook page for any upcoming events. 3. We have adoptable cats on a continuous basis at Pet Supplies Plus in Grand Rapids on Alpine at Four Mile, Kalamazoo at 60th Street, and 28th Street across from Woodland Mall; in Wyoming on 28th Street; and in Grandville on Wilson Avenue. These cats can be met any time during store hours and adoption applications are available in the store. Pet Supplies Plus staff will fax the applications for our review. Once the application is approved, the adoption can be completed by Pet Supplies Plus staff. 4. Periodically we are invited to hold an adoption event at local retail stores, grooming salons or veterinary clinics. Please check our Calendar of Events for a listing of all adoption events.
