Adoption process

1. Complete the Adoption Application 2. Tour the Facility: A RMFR representative will guide you through the shelter and answer any questions. 3. Meet cats that might be a good fit for your home. If you have a good idea of a perfect cat for you, we can introduce you to some potential matches. If you are interested in specific cats or kittens you have seen online, we will help you locate them in the shelter and answer any questions. 4. Spend time with the cat or kitten. After your initial tour, relax and spend some time with the cat or kitten while we take care of the application process. On busy days, it may take an hour to finish the adoption process. 5. Discuss verified application. We may need to clarify some responses on your adoption application. If there are things that need to be done before we can approve you for adoption, such as vaccinating your current cats or payment of a pet deposit, we will let you know at this time. 6. Discuss the cat(s) you have chosen with our knowledgeable staff. Not every cat is perfect for every household, and the cat(s) you chose might not be the best fit. RMFR has been around for 25 years, and its employees truly understand the best adoption practices. We have the benefit of experience. Some of our cats have chronic health problems and need extra care, some will not tolerate children, and some are shy. If it is decided that a particular cat is ill-suited to your home, we will do everything we can to help you find another, better-suited animal. 7. Complete the Adoption Contract. The adoption contract is approved by an RMFR representative and is legally binding. Please read it carefully before you agree and sign. 8. Discuss the cat’s medical record. You may need to bring your new family member back for booster shots and to address any unanswered questions or concerns. Be aware that most cats or kittens will go home the same day, and we cannot place a hold for potential adopters.
