NORTH CAROLINA SCHNAUZER RESCUE, INC. (NCSR) is a 501c3 non-profit, all-volunteer group that works in North Carolina to rescue, assess through fostering, care for medical needs, and adopt out pure-bred miniature schnauzers. We also strive to educate the public on schnauzer-specific and other canine issues, and support spay/neuter for all family pets to help reduce pet overpopulation. NCSR does not have a central shelter location – our rescue group is made up of foster homes throughout the state of North Carolina, with concentrations of membership in the greater Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Asheville, and Wilmington areas. NCSR does not adopt to homes that have electronic/underground fencing. Although some have succssfully used this type of fencing to contain dogs of all breeds, NCSR believes it to be an unsafe and unreliable method of containment for a rescued Schnauzer. Schnauzers, as a breed, have a high prey drive and will brave getting “zapped” for a chance to chase a squirrel or to meet another dog on the outside of the fence. They will not, however, brave the “zap” to get back into the yard. This leaves the dog roaming free on the outside of the fence and in danger of cars, strange dogs, and other dangers. Because rescue dogs are often nervous in new surroundings, they can be prone to run if scared or startled. For the well-being and safety of our rescues, we will not adopt a rescued Schnauzer to a home with e lectronic/underground fencing.
