Adoption process

The Process for Meeting and/or Adopting an Animal at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center: Prospective adopters will need to complete the following four (4) steps in order to meet and adopt one of our companion animals at our adoption center. Step One: Review Adoption Policies. Step Two: Come to our adoption center to meet and select the animal or animals you are interested in adopting. Step Three: Fill-out and submit one of our Adoption Applications for the animal you wish to adopt. After we receive the application, we will: 1. Review your application to make certain the information is complete. 2. Contact your references and conduct a veterinary check. 3. Contact you with any follow up questions. 4. Pre-approve your application. You will need to provide us with a copy of your driver’s license or proof of residence, and if applicable, written proof that you are permitted to own/have the pet you wish to adopt on the premises where you reside. Step Four: Provided the adoption is approved, we will schedule a home visit and an adoption contract will need to be completed and a non-refundable adoption fee accepted. All members of your household must meet the animal or animals you wish to adopt at our adoption center or be present for the home visit. If you already have a dog or dogs in the household, we will require a meet-n-greet at our adoption center with all canine members who currently reside in the household prior to adoption approval.
