Kingdom Animal Shelter is a limited access, all volunteer, non-profit certified 501(c) (3), animal rescue organization. Our mission is to facilitate the placement of rescued, abandoned, abused or neglected animals in safe, life-long homes. We respect the inherent value of every animal in our care and we strive to prevent overpopulation and cruelty to animals.

Adoption process

Complete an adoption application and authorization for release of information form and email them to adoptions@kingdomanimalshelter.com or mail them to 1161 Portland St, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819. An adoption counselor will process your application. Please allow at least 5 business days for the process to be completed. After the review is complete, the adoption counselor will contact you, generally by email or by phone. During the application process the adoption counselor will: contact your landlord if you are a renter; contact your veterinarian for a reference on veterinary care of current and past animals (the adoption counselor is looking to ensure that all current and past animals have been kept up to date with vaccinations and annual wellness checks); contact 1 or 2 personal references. If your application looks like it will be a good fit, the adoption counselor will arrange to meet you and your family, existing pets, etc. This will also give you the opportunity to meet any cats you are interested in as well as meet your family members (including animals in your home). The adoption counselor may request a home visit or a Zoom visit. Due to the pandemic, most visits are currently being held via Zoom. You will be notified if your application is approved or declined. If the application is approved, you will work with the adoption counselor to work out a mutually agreed upon time and date for you to take your cat home. During the review of the adoption application, you will be asked to agree to: keep cats as indoor only, never declaw your cats, take the cat to the vet on a yearly basis (or more) for wellness exams (maintain twice yearly wellness checks if your cat is FIV+), and keep the cat up to date on vaccinations recommended by the veterinarian.
