Furfriends Animal Rescue, Inc.

I would give this review zero stars if it let me. Stay away from this rescue. Seek out more reputable ones who are committed to ensuring proper adoptions, placement, and follow-up for animals. Do your research and then do some more. I thought I knew what I needed to know about Furfriends, Inc when I adopted. It wasn't the first time I'd adopted a dog and had success, but my experience with FurFriends, particularly their CEO was one of the worst I've experienced. My heart goes out to the dogs in the care of the rescue considering the experience I had. First, the dog I hoped to adopt was labeled as a friendly, non-shedder who was owner surrendered. Come to find out, none of that was true. The dog, and others, were transported from what I understood to be California to Oregon in some absolutely terrible conditions. When the transport arrived, we could see kennels stacked 4 layers high with kennels in the front seat and on the floor FULL of dogs. The dogs had been in kennels with little to no breaks with one handler for all the dogs. Broke my heart to see them all stuff into the van in that manner. When I brought the dog to my home, he proceeded to attack my home, drawing blood multiple times. When I brought it to Sarah's (CEO), attention and said he needed to be rehomed, the response was less than professional...less than the worst of professional. She and her supposed trainer blamed me for the dog's behavior and kept insisting I keep a dog that was harming my home dog. If you do eventually adopt from them despite reviews (read all the reviews out there - and request to meet the dog FIRST), don't try to rehome the dog, because Sarah becomes aggressive, attacks one's character citing untruths and presents some irrational behavior. The communication starts nice, but if you present any facts or want them/her to 'make things right', the conversation quickly goes downhill. Even mentioning that negative experiences with some can impact future adoptions because word-of-mouth is an important part of rescues. In the end, I found a reputable rescue that was wonderful, supportive, professional, and engaged throughout the process. So, in the end, it worked out for me, but I bare to think of the emotional and physical harm done to myself and my home dog through my time with Furfriends, Inc. I'll never know what happened to that dog. But, buyer beware!
