Dog-Harmony is a non-profit 501(c)3 dedicated to reducing the shelter dog population through ongoing humane education. Founded by professional dog trainer Nancy Bown, CPDT-KA, our non-profit works to build positive relationships between canines and humans – preventing dogs from becoming homeless in the first place. What makes us different? In addition to training dogs, we work to “train” the public and pet parents. For adoptions, individualized attention is given before, during and after to make sure the new family has the right tools to build a successful life together. The key element is education - of humans and dogs, no matter what age. Our programs are low-cost or free, and include: Humane Education; Microchipping; Spay/Neuter Scholarship and Transport; Adoption; New: Prong Collar Alternatives.
1. Fill out an Adoption Questionnaire based on the ASPCA ‘Meet Your Match’ program. 2. We’ll have a conversation with you to determine your needs and preferences, find out about your family schedule, and talk about your previous experience with pets. 3. If applicable, we’ll call your veterinarian to ensure that previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and well cared for. 4. For renters, we’ll check with your landlord to ensure that dogs are permitted and that the dog you’re adopting wouldn’t violate any size or breed restrictions. 5. Lastly, we’ll visit your home to see the environment where the dog will live and answer your questions. This is a great opportunity for you to get valuable input on how to integrate your new dog into your home. 6. The adoption process doesn’t stop when you take your new dog home. Dog-Harmony provides continued support to ensure a smooth transition into your home.
