About

City Lights Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation based in Morgan Hill, CA. The foundation was formed, in July of 2011, after the local police department contacted the founders regarding 5 dogs abandoned in a home after an eviction. Due to cutbacks the city no longer had the resources with which to deal with this situation. The only option available to them would have resulted in the dogs being put down. We retrieved the dogs from the house, provided medical care, got them into temporary homes, socialized them, and finally adopted them out to some wonderful families. Though the foundation was created in 2011, the founders already had more than 10 years of experience with animal rescue. For most of those years the founders have provided foster care for more than 100 dogs and continue to foster on a back up basis these days for the foundation’s volunteer foster homes. In addition to fostering animals, the founders have also provided transportation for thousands of animals. These animals are transported, on a regular basis, from local shelters to various rescue groups around the bay area who foster, and eventually place, these animals with forever families. Additionally some long range transports have also been provided to/from destinations such as Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT and the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona, CA.

Adoption process

Our adoption process is designed to help us connect animals to families. First we ask that you fill out an adoption application. This helps our pet advocates understand your expectations and lifestyle towards the best match. Second, we schedule a “meet and greet” where we try to get the animal and the potential adoptive family together, on neutral ground, to see if it’s a good fit for both animals and people. Third, if the fit is good, a home visit will be arranged. The purpose of the home visit is to insure the home is prepared to provide a safe and happy life for a long time. Finally, sign a contract with a representative and take your new pet home.
