CKBR was formed in 1999 by a group of Boxer dog loving people. We spend a great deal of time, money and energy saving individual Boxer dogs from certain death in Kentucky shelters and dog pounds. CKBR volunteers take in abandoned and unwanted Boxers and foster them in their homes while helping the dog become adoptable. All rescue dogs are given a thorough medical exam and are vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. The dogs are crate and house trained and taught basic obedience commands while in care. All dogs are tested for compatibility with other dogs, cats and children. While there is never a guarantee, we try to adopt only those dogs with sound temperaments. We strongly urge you to research the Boxer breed before purchasing a puppy or adopting an adult. Boxers are wonderful dogs, but they are not for every household. They are high energy dogs and although very trainable, they do require a great deal of supervision and strong leadership. Boxers want to be with their families every minute of every day. They will become very destructive when left alone if not properly trained. Older Boxers are usually perfect pets because while they are still active and playful, they also settle down to sleep on the floor at your feet. If you have a very inactive lifestyle, you'll not be happy with a Boxer and the dog won't be happy either!
