About

Human beings aren’t the only ones feeling the pinch of ongoing tough times. Pets have become the voiceless victims of this unstable economy or they just outgrow their cuteness and their welcome. Pet owners leaving their animals with Shelters and Rescues because they can no longer afford to care for them because of loss of job or residence or owners passing away, with no plans in place to take care of their furry loved ones. Stories like these are all too common and we hear them all. Shelters are beyond capacity and if not adopted quickly the only option is to put down these homeless pets to make room for the never ending stream of animals coming in. Pugs are not immune to the possibility of finding themselves homeless. Since 2010, the number of pugs needing rescue has more than doubled with all Pug Rescues nationwide. With the help of a new volunteer, Deborah Hansen, “Pug Rescue of Santa Barbara” responded to the increased demand and stepped up rescue efforts out of the area and into surrounding counties. In recognition of our expanded rescue efforts, we amended the organization’s name to Central Coast Pug Rescue in 2011. This also came at a time when the founding President, Connie Phillips decided to retire. Pug Rescue of Santa Barbara was incorporated in 2002 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and although her title has changed, her 15 years of dedication saving pugs keeps her heart in the action and she remains involved. We are bringing back the Annual Pug Party Fundraiser located at private home in Santa Barbara this year! Since we extended our reach in 2011, we have had tremendous success, finding homes for over 300 pugs. Our organization relies on the open arms and hearts of foster homes and we are funded entirely from private donations and fundraising efforts. We are working hard to grow our organization with the help of new volunteers and the few volunteers we have are committed to our mission to give pugs a second chance for life and love. We are proud to say “we have never turned our back on a pug needing a second chance”
