Calhoun County Canine Shelter

About

We are a small county run shelter that houses lost and stray dogs in Calhoun County, IA. Unfortunately we stay full most of the time and rarely do dogs get claimed by their owners. But we are fortunate to work with the local prison to have the dogs trained in basic obedience, housebreaking, and socialization. This has done wonders for our adoption rate and success of those adoptions. We could also use some foster homes!

Adoption process

To adopt a pet, simply fill out an application describing yourself and your household. If approved, pay a small fee to cover shots, spay/neuter and other expenses. You may then take your new family member home. Home visits may be required for some pets or family situations. Indoor homes will be given priority. All animals are spayed/neutered and are micropchipped.
