Basil's Buddies

About

Basil's Buddies is a not-for-profit animal welfare organization. We officially became incorporated in January of 2009 and have received 501(c)(3) non-profit status from the IRS. The purpose of our group is to improve the lives of domesticated and companion animals and to help end the overpopulation of homeless domesticated animals by utilizing alternatives to euthanasia. Our long-range goal is to establish a large animal sanctuary in Southeast Michigan. However, we have many short-term goals that will help us achieve this dream. The purpose of this charitable organization is to: 1) improve the lives of domesticated and companion animals, and 2) help end the overpopulation of homeless domesticated animals by utilizing alternatives to euthanasia. This purpose shall be accomplished by activities including, but not limited to, the following: a) establishing an animal sanctuary to provide a temporary home to animals awaiting adoption and a permanent home to animals who cannot be adopted, b) establishing education and spay and neuter programs to help control the pet population, c) improving the matching of animals with adopters to minimize returns, d) providing tailored education to adopters along with animal training and behavioral programs to minimize animal health and behavioral issues, and e) providing assistance and resources to people who would otherwise have to give up their companion animals.
