About

Serving our community since 1952, the Austin Humane Society (AHS) is the longest standing no-kill shelter in Austin. AHS transforms the lives of animals and the people who love them through life-saving programs that find animals homes, serve animals and people in times of crisis, prevent future homelessness through spay and neuter, and engage the community to be a part of the solution. Over the past year, AHS has unleashed hope for over 11,000 animals thanks to the generosity of our donors.

Adoption process

1. Browse the animals online, then stop by the shelter to visit with any available animals in person. 2. Fill out an adoption questionnaire, then talk to your Adoption Counselor about the animal - their personality, their history, what to expect, etc. 3. Get to know the animal! Play with them, pet them, or just sit with them. 4. Once you’ve decided to adopt, you’ll fill out the paperwork onsite. Many animals are ready to go home that day! 5. Enjoy your lifetime of unconditional love.
